Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of any great dancer. With many children dreaming of becoming a ballerina, it is a very popular style of dance. Ballet teaches children technique, posture, strength, grace, control and more. It gives dancers a good sense of their body, and helps them to understand how to create beautiful shapes, lines and positions with the body. Ballet gives children a strong sense of discipline and requires hard work to pass exams. For anyone wanting to be a professional dancer or performer, Ballet is a necessity and a strong ballet training will be behind every exceptional dancer.

Modern / Jazz

This genre of dance covers a vast range of styles, ranging from lyrical and contemporary to street and commercial. It teaches children to be versatile and as well as being great fun, it gives the pupils a fantastic sense of musicality and style. In our classes we train the children to be strong, dynamic and sensitive dancers. Jazz dance can be danced and moulded to almost any piece of music. When combined with the foundation of ballet, modern jazz provides the basic training of a good dancer in almost any style.

Tap

Tap helps with musicality and performance, with the children learning to listen and react to the music. Tap challenges children’s creativity and encourages them to improvise and choreograph their own steps or dances to different musical styles and tempos. Above all, tap is great fun and fantastic exercise.

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre combines music, songs, dialogue and dance. The emotional content, and story of the piece (e.g. humour, pathos, love, anger, loss) is told through the words, music and movement as a whole. Since the early 20th Century, musical theatre productions have been simply called ‘musicals’. In class we will teach small, bite size productions of famous and not so famous musicals. The children will learn aspects of drama, singing and dance and have regular opportunities to perform and showcase all that they’ve been working on. Musical theatre classes are a great way to build confidence, form friendships and teach excellent teamwork skills. Apart from all of this, the classes give you the ‘buzz’ of theatre and performing, which after all, is what it’s all about!
